A powerful predawn magnitude-6.2 quake that hit the Negros area triggered tsunami fears that prompted the voluntary evacuation of families and the suspension of classes in some areas of Negros Occidental Tuesday.
Office of the Civil Defense Region 6 (Western Visayas) information officer Aletha Nogra said many of the residents had feared a tsunami from the quake despite the fact that authorities did not raise a tsunami alert.
