The iPad
Jobs later revealed that the iPhone started life as a tablet. In 2010, Apple returned to that original idea, unveiling the iPad. The touchscreen tablet was met with scepticism from some quarters of the press and public when it was announced. But, within months, it had become a phenomenon - kickstarting the entire tablet computer sector with another timely injection of innovation.
First Apple Mac
The first Macintosh computer was launched with Apple's famous '1984' Super Bowl TV commercial - it was released 24 January 1984. The 128k machine's graphical user interface was a hit with both business customers and consumers, and it has had a huge influence on the computer operating systems that have followed.
Steve Jobs Legacy
Steve Jobs founded Apple on 1 April 1976, with his friend Steve Wozniak. The pair initially worked out of Jobs' family garage in California, they had to sell some of their possessions - including Jobs' Volkswagen van - in order to fund development of the Apple I.
However their hard work paid off in 1977 when the Apple II computer (pictured) became a big-seller. The first Apple II had a 1Mhz processor, 4K of RAM and loaded programes from audio cassette. It launched with an affordable price tag of $1,298 and was an enormous success. Jobs was 25 when Apple became a public company in 1980, by which time he had amassed a personal fortune of $165 million.
