Jobs later revealed that the iPhone started life as a tablet. In 2010, Apple returned to that original idea, unveiling the iPad. The touchscreen tablet was met with scepticism from some quarters of the press and public when it was announced. But, within months, it had become a phenomenon - kickstarting the entire tablet computer sector with another timely injection of innovation.
