Most Memorable Smartphones (Then And Now)

Then: Nokia 3310

The 3310 shot Nokia to the front of the mobile phone race when it was released in 2000. A massive hit with consumers of all ages, it went on to sell 126 million units, and is fondly remembered for its toughness and straightforward interface.

Standout features included the addictive Snake II, custom ringtones, interchangeable covers - back and front - and the ability to send SMS messages three times the length of a then standard text. Although phones are more advanced today, they are rarely as reliable as this old workhorse.

Now: Sony Xperia Arc S

Hitting the shelves a mere six months after the original Xperia Arc, the 'S' edition upped the processor speed and dropped the Ericsson... but little else, to be perfectly honest. Still, a bit of extra speed for web browsing or demanding apps is always welcome. And as the original Arc was a cracking handset, more of the same is no bad thing. The screen is about as good as it gets too, rivaling the display of the Samsung Galaxy S2 for clarity and colour reproduction. Couple that with an 8MP f/2.4 camera and you've got one hot camera phone.
